Two Dallas Baptist University Students Lost Their Lives In Tragic Accident

Two freshman students attending Dallas Baptist University were killed in a two-vehicle car accident over the weekend less than one mile from the college campus. Three other students from the university were also injured

NBCDFW reports that the fatal crash happened on Mountain Creek Parkway late Saturday,  October 3rd, when 21-year-old Karina de la Rosa was a passenger in a car heading westbound in the 2100 block of Mountain Creek Parkway. As the group of students was allegedly going out to get food, another vehicle carrying students rear-ended the back of the car that she was in.

Police say that de la Rosa died at the hospital, and 18-year-old Kaitlyn Kotzman, who was also a passenger, was declared dead at the accident scene. Three other students who were in the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old woman who had been driving the vehicle that crashed into the second vehicle was uninjured.

Jerry Kotzman told NBCDFW that his daughter was majoring in psychology and hoped to one day found a non-profit to benefit inner-city kids.

University President Adam C. Wright said in a statement to reporters, “We are devastated by this horrible loss of life. We are praying for the families of all those involved as they process through this tragedy.”

The accident is under investigation. Police have not stated whether the 21-year-old woman will face charges in the case.
