One person is dead and two drivers have been arrested after a two-vehicle crash on Monday night.
According to authorities, the accident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. along Ferguson Road in Dallas when a man driving eastbound at a high rate of speed in a Saturn. The driver blew through a stoplight at the intersection of Ferguson Road and Woodmeadow Parkway and collided with a Nissan Sentra that was attempting to make a protected left turn.
The impact of the crash caused the Saturn to crash into a light pole. Firefighters spent more than an hour cutting the 37-year-old driver and his passenger from the wrecked Saturn.
The passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene has not been identified. The driver of the Saturn was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Authorities say that tests revealed that the driver of the Saturn was driving under the influence of alcohol and has been arrested and charged with DUI and intoxication manslaughter.
In a strange twist of circumstances, the 28-year-old female driver of the Nissan was also arrested for attempting to flee from the scene of an accident on foot. She was apprehended by an off-duty Dallas Police officer working security at an apartment complex.
Upon further investigation, the Nissan that she had been driving had been reported stolen during a robbery. The woman’s name has also been withheld.
