One Dead After Crash On I-45 In Ellis County
At least one person is dead after a major crash on Interstate 45 in Ellis County, near Alma, Texas, according to this report by CBS DFW.
The crash happened around 1:45 in the afternoon on Thursday afternoon. Since the accident happened on the northbound lanes of the highway near FM 1182 in the town of Alma, those are the lanes that had to close. It is not yet clear how many vehicles were involved in the accident, but one 18-wheeler was implicated. The tractor-trailer ended up blocking most of the northbound lanes, causing the Interstate to be closed for several hours as officials cleared the wreckage and started investigating exactly what happened. It seems that at least four vehicles were involved, although no details are known at this time.
Traffic is being forced to take the service roads for this particular stretch of the Interstate, leading to large stretches of backed-up traffic on the highway.
Such traffic slowdowns are a constant frustration for anyone that spends a lot of time on the road. A single accident, with even a simple detour, can add several hours to what should be a simple road trip. Aside from the time lost, the thousands of gallons of gas being wasted because of the slowdown is difficult to imagine.
