Head-On Collision in Van Zandt County Kills Two

We all need to use our vehicles to get around, to get to work on time, or to take our children to school. Even in these times of the pandemic, when we are encouraged to stay home as much as possible, we find ourselves on the road fairly often.

And yet, we often fail to realize that, every minute we spend behind the wheel, we are facing the possibility of an accident that could cost us our life. This accident could happen at no fault of our own.

Last Sunday, in van Zandt, a fatal accident occurred. The exact cause of this particular collision is still being investigated by the authorities.

At about 7:50 in the morning, a 2021 Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on U.S. 80 when it apparently lost control in some way. It crossed the center stripe and stuck a 2021 Freightliner truck head-on. This head-collision killed both drivers almost instantly.

The accident happened approximately 2.5 miles east of the city of Fruitvale. Both drivers were from Dallas, Texas.

The driver of the Hyundai was ejected from his vehicle, a 61-year-old man. The driver of the truck was a 58-year-old woman. Although she was not ejected from her truck, she also was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in this accident.

The exact cause of the Hyundai crossing the center stripe in the first place is still under investigation. In the blink of an eye, the lives of two people were lost, and the trajectory of the two families was changed forever.
