Fiery Crash Kills Child Near Horn High School
One child is dead and a number of others were injured after a fiery crash on Wednesday.
In a report appearing on the Dallas’ NBC affiliate website t Independent School District that was carrying approximately 42 children to the Terry Middle School. Investigators say that the crash occurred on Lawson Road, near East Cartwright Road near Horn High School. The school bus overturned onto its side and burst into flame.
Mesquite police said in a statement that a total of seven people were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Those who were injured included three students who were on board the school bus, three police officers and the driver of the bus. No one had injuries that were considered life-threatening.
The 38 remaining students who were on board the bus who were not injured were taken to Terry Middle School to be reunited with their families.
The school district has withheld the name of the student who was killed in the accident. The district said in a tweet that out of respect for the privacy for the student’s family, they were currently not releasing any further information about the student.
The district also thanked the quick actions of first responders, citizens, community and other districts who lent their support after the accident.
