Suspect Arrested After Gruesome Rideshare Murder
More and more drivers today are using dashcams to record either what happens inside or outside their vehicles. This is both because the technology continues to get more inexpensive, and therefore accessible, and also because the use of such devices is illustrated again and again when accidents and other crimes take place.
As seen in this report from NBCDFW, a recent example from Dallas shows how a dashcam can help catch and convict a criminal. A 33-year-old ride-share driver picked up 21-year-old Joshua Emmanuel Scott from his place of work at 11 a.m. last Friday.
Scott held the driver at gunpoint, forced him to stop the car, then brutally murdered him. All this time, the dashcam was recording his actions, allowing the police to easily identify him for arrest later.
In this case, unfortunately, the owner of the car and the dashcam did not survive the incident. But the device allowed the murderer to be caught quickly so that he was unable to hurt anyone else. At this time, the authorities have not divulged any known reason for the murder.
During the struggle between murderer and victim, the car was crashed. This led to additional property damage, even though, fortunately, no one else was injured in the event. The Dallas family of this victim grieves the loss, but they can be comforted, in a small way, by the speedy arrest of the murderer.
