Road Rage Shooting Hits Child On I-35

Everyone has heard about road rage incidents where drivers take out their aggression on each other, leading to serious injury or even death. Taking out stress, anxiety or anger on other drivers is never the right solution.  Something as simple as another driver perceiving that they have been cut off or impatience with traffic can cause tempers to rise and overflow into violence.

That seems to be what happened when Oklahoma City resident, Diamond Dixon and her 9-year-old daughter Rubye were in Dallas to visit friends. During their drive on Interstate 35E, another driver cut off Dixon, and she honked at them. Dixon then attempted to race away from the other driver but they eventually caught up to her again. The suspect driver slammed on his brakes twice before she heard bullets striking her SUV.

Dallas Police say that several shots were fired into Dixon’s SUV, including one that hit young Rubye on her left side. According to Dixon, “My child started screaming like, ‘I got shot. I got hit. I’m shot, Momma.'”

Dixon drove to Children’s Hospital in Dallas, where doctors determined that the bullet damaged Rubye’s kidneys and intestines. The child has already undergone four surgeries and is scheduled for a fifth surgery set sometime next month.  Doctors have told Diamond Dixon several times that her daughter Rubye is very lucky to be alive. The child is now recovering at home.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect in the case. He is described as a balding, white male with a salt and pepper goatee and was driving a white, newer model such as an Infiniti Coupe.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Dallas Police Department. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to a conviction related to the incident.

Crime Stoppers may be contacted at 214-373-TIPS.
