Motorcycle Accident Statistics For Texas
According to a recent report released by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), two weeks ago, at least one motorcyclist per day is killed on our state’s roadways. The report comes as part of the state’s annual “Share the Road: Look Twice for Motorcycles” which happens in response to increased motorcycle traffic during the summer.
Radio Station KLAQ (95.5 FM) in 2019, there were 412 deaths of motorcyclists in Texas, with more than 1800 others injured. The cities that have proved to be most dangerous for motorcyclists in Texas are Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, and Odesa.
The most common type of motorcycle/motor vehicle crashes is when drivers turn left in front of their path. Most often, the most significant contributing factors to these accidents are distracted drivers. Whether they are on their phones, tuning their radio, talking to passengers or simply not paying attention, their actions end up costing lives. Law enforcement officials are urging motorists to check their mirrors and look several times as well as using their turn signal before making a turn or changing lanes.
One of the most recent motorcycle crashes was a hit-and-run crash that happened on Wednesday, July 29th, in El Paso. Authorities say a white pickup truck struck the motorcyclist near El Paso High School on Edgemere, then dragged and ran over the vehicle and motorcyclist.
The El Paso Police Department is still looking for a white pickup truck that will likely have front end damage and scrape marks of orange paint that came from the motorcycle during the crash. Anyone with any information about the crash is being asked to contact El Paso Police at (915) 832-4000.
