Grease Fire Takes Out Apartment Building
Firefighters were called to a three-alarm fire in Lewisville after a grease fire went out of control in a kitchen this morning. Cody Baker, a resident at the Autumn Breeze Apartments, said the fire started in his unit when he returned home from work from his graveyard shift.
Apparently, Baker fell asleep while the grease was still heating. Baker managed to get himself and his family out of the blaze by crawling out. He then went door to door to alert neighbors about the fire.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire just before 6:30 a.m. Flower Mound and Coppell firefighters assisted Lewisville crews at the scene. Red Cross was also at the scene assisting displaced residents.
Initial estimates indicate that several in the building sustained severe damage; however, authorities have yet to release a specific number.
No one was injured in the blaze and the blaze remains under investigation.
