Drunk Driver Kills 1 in One-Way Accident

One person is dead after a head-on collision on Central Expressway Monday morning. According to Richardson police, officers attempted to stop the driver of an SUV that was going the wrong way in the northbound lanes of the Central Expressway at approximately 4:00 a.m.

The driver of the SUV had clipped one vehicle, but continued going the wrong way. The driver did not stop until he slammed into another vehicle just north of Hall Street in Dallas. Emergency crews attempted to cut the victim from his car, however he died at the scene of the accident. The name of the victim has not yet been released.

The wrong-way driver, identified as 35-year-old Sidney Pineda, was treated at the hospital and then taken into police custody. Pineda currently faces charges of intoxication manslaughter.

All too often, the act of drinking and driving can lead to tragedies such as this. No one imagines that they will ever be the one who will be involved in an automobile accident that ends in the death of another human being. Avoiding drinking and driving is one of the best ways to help insure that such a tragedy doesn’t happen in the first place.

The families of the victim involved in this crash will have to face the difficult emotional and financial realities afterward. Whenever someone is killed in a wrong-way accident, the family members of the victims very likely will file a civil lawsuit against the drunk driver in order to obtain compensation for their losses. In the eyes of the Texas Courts, the family may be entitled to receive compensation for any medical bills, lost earnings and pain and suffering. The family may also be entitled to monetary damages resulting from the loss of companionship and comfort.
