A 15-Year-Old Teenager Loses His Life In a Wrong Way Crash. The Incident Is Still Under Investigation.

The North Texas Tollway Authority spoke about a recent wrong-way crash that killed a teen who was just about to turn 16 years old and the driver who is responsible for the accident.

NBC reports that just before midnight last Saturday, two cars collided head-on on the Dallas North Tollway. In addition to the tragic loss of the teenager and the driver, the two parents of the teen were critically injured, and his sister was hurt in the crash.

The accident is still being investigated, and there are several details and factors that remain unknown. The person responsible for the accident was noted, however, to have had a previous DWI on his record.

The North Texas Tollway Authority indicates that as of 2020, every wrong-way crash NTTA has recorded involved intoxication. In order to get onto the Dallas North Tollway while driving in the wrong direction, you must ignore several road signs and markings. For example, the driver in this incident would have had to ignore at least nine signs before he made it onto the Tollway.

Now, the NTTA is investigating how to send a stronger message to wrong-way drivers, so as to decrease the frequency of wrong-way collisions. Spike strips were one option considered, but there were studies that revealed problems with that method, including damaging first responder vehicles who might go the wrong way in an emergency.

We wish to send condolences to the families of the deceased, and we hope that NTTA can come up with a viable solution for catching drunk drivers before this kind of accident happens again.
