University Slaying Linked To Street Race
Charges have been filed in relation to the killing of two Judson University students who were killed on Route 31 at the entrance of the university. The Daily Herald reports.
Two people are accused of racing at the time of the accident. Both have been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated street racing, both of which are felonies. A third person was charged with misdemeanor aggravated speeding and is believed to have been driving behind the two racers when the crash happened.
The racers were going 35 mph over the limit when one of them crashed into a vehicle carrying the students. Two were thrown free and died at the scene. Two others were injured.
One of the racers and the following driver turned themselves in to police, but the second driver remains at large. Authorities also alleged that the driver who fessed up had an illegal level of THC in his blood at the time of the crash and charged him with DUI-related charges.
Again, we wish to extend our condolences to the families of the victims and the members of Judson University. We hope that the families can now seek justice and compensation now that suspects were arrested in connection with the accident.
