Suspect Arrested In Burleson Hit And Run

Police in Burleson have arrested a man suspected of causing a hit-and-run crash that killed a high-school student on Monday. CBS reports.

Eric Padilla is charged with accident involving death. According to the police, the crash happened at NW John Jones Drive and Tarpon Street. Padilla is believed to have turned west onto Tarpon and struck a vehicle coming into the intersection. He then left the scene without stopping to see if assistance was needed.

Police found the man shortly after the crash and tested him for intoxication. There was no sign. The passenger in the second vehicle was killed at the scene. The driver was hospitalized and has since been released. The accused is in jail.

Intoxication is a major cause for hit and run accidents. You might miss the fact you hit someone and drive off. Some people are just scared and flee. And others do not care enough about the welfare of others to bother stopping. These kinds of accidents are monstrous.

It is our obligation to the law and to our fellow humans to check for injuries and summon help after an accident. The sooner medical help can get there, the better the chances of saving lives and reducing injuries. You also protect yourself. Fleeing the scene of an accident will shift the blame to you, even if it wasn’t your fault.
