Motorcyclist Struck From Behind in Hit and Run Crash
A motorcyclist has been seriously injured after a hit-and-run crash along a Texas 121 access road on Sunday.
According to the Dallas Fort-Worth NBC affiliate website, the motorcyclist was struck from behind and run over after having exited Texas 121 at Harwood on the 2400 block of the feeder road. The vehicle that rear-ended the motorcyclist is described as a dark-colored four-door Hyundai sedan that was manufactured sometime between 2006 – 2010.
Law enforcement officers report that the driver of the Hyundai drove over the motorcyclist and drug both motorcycle and rider several feet. Witnesses to the incident said that the driver of the car did not stop at the scene of the crash.
The motorcyclist was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital and Fort Worth to be treated for serious injuries.
The Bedford Police Department said that video surveillance cameras were able to capture footage of the crash. Police released the video footage on Tuesday.
Motorcyclists are already exposed to the risks of the road more than other drivers are. No matter what the circumstances are, if you are involved in an accident in the state of Texas, you are required by law to stop and stay at the scene until you are released by a law enforcement officer. Even in the case of a small fender bender, at the very least, names and insurance information should be exchanged.
Of course, for the driver who is at fault in such an incident, the instinct to take flight can be overwhelming. No matter how horrible an accident is, owning up to your responsibility is still much better than facing additional charges for leaving the scene of an accident where serious injuries or worse are involved.
