    Auto-Pedestrian Crash Kills 18-year-old, Injures 12-year-old

An alleged drunk driver has been accused of causing the death and injury of two brothers in Lewisville. NBC has the story.

The accident happened in the 400 block of Highland Drive near Club Ridge Drive in the evening of December 18. A car was traveling east on Highland and swerved into the other lane. They hit another car head-on and bounced up onto the sidewalk where the brothers were.

The older brother was pronounced dead at Medical City Lewisville hospital. The younger brother was taken to Dallas Medical Center, where he is now in stable yet critical condition. The driver of car that was struck also had minor injuries.

Police took the responsible driver to the hospital for treatment, then arrested them. That driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughters and intoxication assault. She is currently out on bond.

If the intoxication charges are proved, then this is another tragic situation that shows how irresponsible alcohol and drug use causes harm to the community. Sidewalks are supposed to be safe places for pedestrians, with enough curb and distance to keep cars from reaching them easily. But they can’t stop a car from jumping the curb and hitting people either.

Our condolences go out to the family of the victims in this incident.
