Homicide Charges After Body Found In Trunk After A Crash
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers responded to a call on Saturday of a reckless driver in the eastbound lane of Interstate 10 on Saturday morning. Officers made a more grisly discovery when inspecting the vehicle after the driver crashed.
ABC affiliate WFAA reports that the incident began at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28th. A DPS trooper responded to the call after spotting a Honda traveling at a rate of high speed near FM 365. The trooper engaged his lights and attempted to pull the driver over.
Initially, the driver acted as if he was pulling his car over, then took off.
In a statement, DPS spokesperson Sgt. Stephanie Davis said the driver continued along Interstate 10. As he approached the Milam Street exit, the driver struck a concrete barrier and lost control of his vehicle.
The driver lost one wheel and continued and crashed the Honda two more times before reaching the parking lot of the Treasure House of St. Marks on North Street in Beaumont. It was there that the driver stopped and was immediately apprehended by law enforcement officers. He has been identified as 35-year-old Victor Campbell of Fresno.
Campbell was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in the incident. He remains in police custody.
Beaumont Police Officers and DPS troopers searched the Honda and found a woman’s body in the trunk.
The woman has been identified as 28-year-old Brianna Tierra Johnson of Houston.
An autopsy was ordered by Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Ben Collins. The woman’s death is being treated as a homicide.
The woman’s death is currently under investigation by the Texas Rangers and the Texas Highway Patrol.
