Garland Police Search For Hit-And-Run Driver That Killed Woman
Police in Garland are searching for a man in connection with a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, November 14th that left one woman dead,
CBS Local in Dallas-Fort Worth reports that crash happened at the intersection of Jupiter Road and Forrest Lane at approximately 11:45 p.m. when Joyce Cawis, 46, was driving her Toyota 4Runner westbound on Forrest Lane when her vehicle was broadsided by a northbound Dodge Ram Big Horn pickup truck was heading northbound on Jupiter Road at a high rate of speed.
Eyewitnesses told Garland Police officers that the driver of the quad cab pickup truck exited his vehicle and got into a black sedan shortly after the crash and left the scene without offering any assistance to Cawis or waiting for the authorities.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene and transported an unconscious Cawis to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. She later died from the injuries she sustained in the crash.
Cawis worked as a nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian. She leaves behind two young boys.
Surveillance video obtained from an area convenience store that captured the accident and vehicle registration numbers obtained from the abandoned pickup truck was used by police to identify the driver as 27-year-old Edgar Alfonso Ugalde as the driver in the crash and have issued a warrant for his arrest.
Garland Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Ugalde, who is described as a Hispanic male with short-cropped hair. Anyone with information is encouraged to call police at (972) 458-4840.
