Road debris can cause accidents, and not just from tire damage. Depending on the object, it can fly up off the roadway and smash through a windshield. That’s what happened to one driver in Dallas.
A bride-to-be and her children were driving down I-35. They were making their way to Six Flags Over Texas. The driver suddenly had safety glass explode in her face. The culprit? A four-inch carriage bolt had smashed through the windshield. Small glass shards were embedded in her neck from the incident.
Luckily, she is expected to be okay though she did receive scratches from the glass. The children in the car were uninjured. The driver believes the bolt fell down from an overpass. Officials are investigating the matter.
It can be difficult to pin down where debris in the road came from, but it can happen. For instance, debris from a dump truck can fly into the roadway and crack or break windshields. That’s why they have signs warning drivers to stay back.
