Car Struck By Semi After Traveling Too Slow On The Interstate

An accident on I-45 at the Navarro/Freestone county line killed a woman and backed up traffic for hours. Corsicana Daily Sun reported on the incident.

Police say that an Accord was traveling on I-45 at low speed in the middle lane. A tractor-trailer did not notice her low speed and tried to dodge out of the way, but struck her back left side. The impact spun the car out of control and off the roadway. The driver of the Accord was killed at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured.

Police do not know why the car was going below the speed limit, but are still investigating what happened.

Interstates have a lower speed limit for a reason. A vehicle going at a normal rate of speed on the interstate may not be able to dodge someone who is going below the lower limit. Vehicles need to travel at least 45 MPH on the interstate. If they cannot, they need to get off of the road to avoid causing an accident.

Going too slow, while rarer than speeding, can be just as dangerous. Don’t dawdle when you’re in an acceleration lane, and if you start to slow down for some reason don’t hesitate to pull over to the shoulder and put on your hazard lights.
