A Driver Is Killed In Two-Vehicle Accident Along I-20

This is the time of year when Texas weather is anything but predictable. Changes in the weather can also make road conditions unpredictable, increasing the chances of getting into an accident. That seems to be what happened after a man was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor-trailer rig along Interstate 20 earlier this week.

In an article on the Abilene, Reporter-News website reports that the Texas Department of Public Safety stated the crash that killed 36-year-old Jorge Juarez just outside of Abilene city limits.

Investigators say that during the lunch hour on Tuesday, October 27, Juarez was driving his 1999 Cadillac El Dorado in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 when he lost control while driving on the wet, slushy roads. The vehicle crossed a median and into the highway’s eastbound lanes and collided with a 2019 Volvo tractor-trailer rig that was hauling a load.

Department of Public Safety troopers responding to the incident said that Juarez had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, who has been identified as 43-year-old Kerry Garland of Grand Blanc, Michigan, and his passenger, 49-year-old Tate Anderson of Clarkson, Michigan, suffered no injuries in the accident.

The Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
