Three People Die In Head-On Crash On State Hwy 105

Three people are dead after a head-on collision in a two-vehicle accident along State Highway 105 near Tarkington over the weekend.

The Blue Bonnet News reports that the fatal accident happened on Saturday, September 26th, at approximately 8:36 p.m. when a motorist driving a pickup truck traveling westbound attempted to pass an 18-wheeler. While the black Chevrolet pickup truck was passing the big rig, it collided head-on with another black Chevrolet pickup truck traveling eastbound on State Route 105.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Eric Burse told reporters that there were three fatalities involved in the accident. The driver of the westbound pickup, a 33-year-old Hispanic man, was declared dead at the scene of the crash.  In the vehicle with him were his 15-year old son and another 33-year-old Hispanic man as passengers.

LifeFlight took the male passenger to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he later died of the injuries he suffered in the crash.  The boy was riding in the back seat of the vehicle and suffered only minor injuries.  He was taken to a trauma center in Houston by ambulance.

The eastbound truck was being driven by a 56-year-old man who was accompanied by his 57-year-old wife.  Precinct District 5 Justice of the Peace, Wade Brown declared the driver of the eastbound vehicle dead at the scene while his wife was flown via LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. She is expected to survive.

Emergency personnel from DPS, along with deputies from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Cypress Lakes Fire Department, and the Tarkington Volunteer Department, responded to the scene of the accident.  The highway was closed for about two hours following the crash.

Officials have not released the identities or any further information about the crash pending notification of family members.
