Driver Rams Into The Back Of Fire Truck On I-20

A crash in Arlington, Texas killed a driver when he rammed into the back of a fire truck that was at the scene of an accident. CBS reported on the crash.

The fire truck was on the left-hand side of I-20 Eastbound assisting police with righting an overturned vehicle just after midnight on Sunday. Police and the fire crew had their lights on, but were in the left-hand lane of the interstate.

A speeding vehicle did not notice that the fire truck was in the left lane and crashed into it instead of moving over. The driver was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. No one else at the scene was injured.

The rule states that all cars need to move over for emergency vehicles when their lights are on. That gives them room to work. When drivers don’t pay attention or move over, accidents like this can happen. Given the late hour of the incident, there is also the possibiliy to driver fatigue or intoxication in this crash.

We are glad that none of the first responders were hurt in the crash, and we hope this incident teaches us all a valuable lesson. If you see lights and hear sirens, stay away from the crash! You could save your life.
