A Driver Led Law Enforcement On A High Speed Chase After An Alleged Hit-And-Run Accident

A suspect was arrested last Wednesday after he allegedly struck a pedestrian and drove away.

CBS Local in Dallas reports that the Seagoville Police Department issued a statement saying that the driver of a pickup truck was involved in a hit-and-run crash involving another man. Someone reported the accident, describing the truck.

A truck matching the description of the one involved in the incident was later spotted by police officers. Officers were conducting a traffic stop, but the driver did not comply.  Instead, the driver attempted to flee from the officers, and police initiated a chase.

The chase extended from Seagoville and into Dallas. When the driver and law enforcement reached the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, other deputies joined in the chase to assist the Seagoville Police officers.

The pursuit eventually ended at the intersection of Forest Lane and Greenville Avenue, where a man and a woman jumped out of the pickup truck and attempted to flee on foot.

The woman managed to escape, but the male driver was apprehended and arrested a short distance away. The woman has not yet been apprehended by the police.

The suspect driver has been identified as Marquis Dampeer. Dampeer has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-run, and evading police.

Initially, law enforcement officials believed that the pickup truck may have been stolen. During the investigation, authorities found that the vehicle was a rental and was overdue at the car rental agency, where it was scheduled to be returned.
