Two Semis Overturn On The I-30 Bridge
Two semi-tractor trailer rigs traveling in the opposite direction overturned on the Interstate 30 Bridge over Lake Ray Hubbard Monday. The road was closed for most of the day.
According to the story appearing on the NBDFW website, the crash happened at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17th. Texas Department of Public Safety cameras showed the crash in which both big rigs jackknifed, closing both the westbound and eastbound lanes over the bridge.
Officials say that one of the 18-wheelers was loaded with meat products while the other was loaded with boxes. Investigators with the Rowlett Police Department say that prior to the collision involving the two big rigs, there was an earlier crash along Interstate 30 which involved at least three other vehicles.
One of the 18-wheelers collided with another car, causing it to roll over on its side, while a second tractor trailer rig going the opposite direction crossed over and collided with two more cars.
Two people injured in the collision were airlifted to an area trauma center with critical injuries. Their identities and current conditions have not been released.
A spokesperson for Dallas Fire-Rescue said in a statement that a HAZMAT team was dispatched to the accident scene to deal fuel spill from at least one of the big rigs.
The westbound lanes of the Interstate were reopened to traffic until after 12:15 p.m. while the eastbound lanes remained closed till later that afternoon.
