Seatbelt Safety Message Delivered At Wild Hog’s Expense

A wild pig came to a violent end last week when a car crashed into it on the road. This was a tragedy for the hog, of course, but since no one in the vehicle was hurt, local officials decided to turn this into a public safety message about the importance of wearing your seatbelt, according to this report from CBS DWF.

The accident happened just outside of Gunter, Texas. A car was driving along FM121 when a wild hog came wandering out onto the roadway at the wrong time. The car couldn’t help but hit the pig. The animal died from the crash, and the front end of the car was crumpled pretty badly.

Thankfully, even though there was significant damage to the car, no one inside was hurt. The pig was the only one to die in the experience. This experience had to be scary, and perhaps a bit traumatic. But local officials decided to use the story to talk about seatbelt safety.

You see, no one in the car was hurt because everyone had their seatbelts on. If someone had been without a seatbelt, there could have been injury involved, considering the driver’s side airbag did deploy, signaling that this was a nontrivial accident.

Gunter Volunteer Fire & Rescue spearheaded the public safety message at the pig’s expense, saying in their Facebook Page: “The hog was not wearing its seat belt and it died. Let that count as proof that seat belts save lives.”
