Officer In Critical Condition After Alleged Street Race

A Dallas Police officer remains in critical condition after crashing into a tree while he was off duty.

CBS Local in Dallas reports that the officer, whose name has not been released, was allegedly racing another vehicle in the 7200 block of Mockingbird Lane on Sunday, December 22nd, when he crashed into a tree.

The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is still currently listed in critical condition.

The white Suzuki that the officer was racing against fled the scene of the crash. Police are still attempting to locate the suspect for questioning about the incident.

A spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department said that the officer has been with the department since November of 2015 and was assigned to the northeast patrol unit.

Witnesses in the neighborhood where the crash occurred told CBS reporters that they heard tires screeching and thudding before hearing people shouting at the other driver, “No, you need to stay here!”

The Suzuki that was allegedly involved in the street racing incident fled the scene.

The accident is still currently under investigation. Police have not said whether charges will be filed against either driver. Authorities have also not said whether the officer will be investigated after the incident.
