Dump Truck Stops For Road Hazard, Car Behind Him Doesn’t

All driver need to stay attentive to avoid accidents, but sometimes we get so sunk in routines that fatal mistakes happen. That’s what happened last Tuesday night on I-30. Dallas News reports.

A young man died after crashing into the back of a dump truck on the interstate according to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

The dump truck stopped in the middle of the road because a black truck had been abandoned in the roadway near North Westmoreland Road. The dump truck was unable to get around it, so he stopped and turned on his hazard lights, then called emergency services.

Unfortunately, one car behind him did not see the hazard and crashed into the back of the truck. He died at the scene. No further details were given.

We do not know how much time passed between the dump truck stopping and turning on his hazards and the collision, but the other driver should have been aware that something was wrong. Unfortunately, we can assume that all the other cars are moving properly on the roadway, especially on familiar routes, and go into autopilot. Add distractions on top of that, like a conversation or a good song on the radio, and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Leave enough distance between you and other vehicles and pay attention to your surroundings. You’ll stay safer that way.
