Driver On Ambien Sentenced To 45 Years In Prison
Driving under the influence is usually blamed on alcohol, but any substance that causes intoxication can be grounds for a DWI charge. This includes prescription drugs. The reason they have warnings about operating heavy machinery is to keep accidents like this one from happening.
A Dallas man is now facing 45 years in prison for driving under the influence of a sedative called Ambien. CW33.com reported that the convicted man had a long history of impaired driving. This was the reason for such a harsh sentence.
The crash in question killed two people. The convicted man steered his vehicle into oncoming traffic on Loop 12 in 2019. He crashed head-on into the other vehicle. Inside were a mother and daughter. The mother was an ex-council member of the Dallas City Council.
Unfortunately, there are some people who cannot stay away from intoxication no matter how much they try. If people like this insist upon driving on public roads and causing mayhem, they must be put away in prison so they are no longer a threat to safety.
Our condolences go out to the family of the slain victim. We hope that this hefty sentence helps bring them a sense of closure over what happened. Please, don’t drive while intoxicated.
