Dangerous Backhoe Ride Kills Two Children, Injures Three Others

Anyone living in a farming community has heard of hay ride, but that’s usually riding in a cart pulled by a tractor. Today’s case involved people riding on a backhoe where they shouldn’t have been. WFAA reports on what happened.

The accident happened in Roanoke, TX last Saturday evening. According to DPS, a John Deere backhoe was going down Chapel Hill Court with multiple children and adults riding on the moving parts. The driver accidentally hit the control for the front bucket and dumped several people onto the street below.

By the time the backhoe came to a stop, two children had been crushed to death and three others were injured and sent to local hospitals. One had to go to a trauma center for treatment.

The driver of the backhoe was arrested and booked into the Denton County Jail on multiple charges, including manslaughter, endangering a child, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

It’s obvious that this was a very dangerous stunt. All it took was one wrong move and now two are dead and three are injured. If you are going to be around heavy machinery, and this includes passenger vehicles, please use them as they’re intended. People don’t ride on top of the hood or the roof for good reason.
