A police pursuit in Carrollton has ended with a car in the water Tuesday night.
According to the police report, the driver who was being pulled over for a traffic violation Interstate 35E around 9:30 p.m. attempted to flee from officers.
The pursuit ended on Luna Road near Valley View Lane when the driver went off the street, impacting with a utility pole, and then ending up in a nearby creek.
The accident resulted in the downing of two utility poles, causing a loss of power for several homes and businesses in the area. The suspect was stuck in the car which was partially submerged in the creek water. Luna Road was closed for several hours as police investigated the scene of the crash.
Accidents that happen during or related to police chases are common. Serious and even fatal accidents from police chases are one of the leading causes of automobile accident injuries. When a criminal is trying to escape and the police are in pursuit, there is often little thought of other innocent drivers or pedestrians during the process of the chase. The suspect does not want to yield to the authorities, and the authorities want to make sure that a suspect does not escape. Such determination on both sides can ultimately cause an accident.
