Crash Caused By Alleged Street Racing Leaves One Dead And One Injured
Two men have been arrested after allegedly street racing, which led to a fatal accident. The incident happened at the corner of Lake June Road and McGreggor Street. As the two racers sped along the main road, a van pulled out of the neighborhood side-street and was struck hard enough to flip several times before sliding to a stop. Inside the van was a woman, who was killed by the crash, and a 70-year-old man who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The alleged racers, who are aged 27 and 29, were arrested on the scene. Multiple witnesses saw exactly what happened, some of whom spoke in this Channel 11 CBS DFW report.
Wide, straight roads like this one seem to be an open invitation for some people to speed. A witness that works near where the accident happened says people often speed here, some going more than 70 miles per hour. Speeding and street racing may bring with it a thrill, a rush of adrenaline young men often seek and indulge in. But along with that thrill is a very real risk. Now two men may pay for their juvenile behavior with many years in prison. If someone were to ask them if the thrill was worth it, they’d likely answer no.
