Accident Involving Drunk Driver Kills Officer
An officer of the Dallas police was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead after a chilling accident involving a drunk driver. The officer had responded to a previous accident on an expressway. He was standing outside his squad car with his emergency lights on, according to this report from NBC 2.
It was about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday when the officer, who was blocking the previous crash site, became the victim of a vehicular accident himself. A car, driven by a 32-year-old man who was allegedly drunk, crashed into the police car at what witnesses called “a high rate of speed.” The force of the crash caused the police car to slam into the police officer, who was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
The driver was arrested for intoxication assault, a charge that sprang from the condition of the passenger of his car, a woman with trauma in the chest area and a cut on her face.
This officer had only served the Dallas Police Department for the last two years. His family now mourns his passing.
Texas has been dealing with record cold and icy roads, but that doesn’t stop the everyday dangers of the road from posing a real threat, as well. In this case, a drunk driver added to the chaos and tragedy of an accident that had already caused injuries and property damage.
