A Truck Catches Fire In An Accident, A Teenager Dies

A Texas driver responsible for a fatal crash that happened earlier this summer in Kansas has been arrested and will be facing charges.

Fox 4 reports that Jared Payne, 38, formerly of Olethe, Kansas, was arrested near Dallas earlier this week on charges related to a crash that happened on Saturday, June 5th, in the vicinity of Interstate 435 and the Kansas Speedway.

Jared Payne was driving his Ford F-15 pickup truck with his two sons, 14-year old Caden and 19-year-old Ethan, southbound on Interstate 435 when he changed lanes. The pickup truck collided with a southbound 18-wheeler. The impact caused the smaller truck to spin out of control and strike a concrete bridge pillar before bursting into flame.

Emergency crews responded to the horrific crash and declared Caden Payne dead at the scene. Both Jared Payne and his son Ethan survived the crash but were seriously injured and had suffered 3rd-degree burns.

Both Ethan and Jared were being treated in the burn unit of Kansas University Hospital. Ethan Payne suffered burns to more than 80% of his body and is still very much at risk for infection and has already undergone multiple surgeries with more to go, Jared’s mother, Missey Payne, told Fox News.

The Dallas Police Department said in a statement that Jared Payne was arrested near the city and is awaiting extradition back to Wyandotte County. Payne is currently facing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery in connection to the fatal crash.
