20 Year Sentence Given To DUI Driver That Killed Woman
One of the worst things that can happen to you if you drive drunk is killing someone else due to your actions. One man is facing 20 years in prison now because of this situation. The Online Madison reports.
The accident happened last June. A Dallas man was driving drunk in the city of Madison, Mississippi, and crashed into the back of another vehicle. The man was speeding and over the legal limit for alcohol consumption. The victim was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center, but died due to her injuries.
The drunk driver left the scene of the accident, but was later caught by police. Now the man is facing two 20-year sentences, to be served concurrently. One for leaving the scene of an accident involving death, and one for driving under the influence resulting in death.
The family of the victim spoke out during sentencing to reflect on the victim’s life. For the drunk driver’s part, he apologized to the family and took complete responsibility for his actions.
Our sincere condolences go out to the victim’s family. Drunk driving is an all-too-common cause of crashes, injuries, and fatalities. We encourage all readers to use a ride share app or use a designated driver if you are going to go drink away from home. If you know you have a problem with alcohol, please seek help.
