Two Trinity University Students Lose Their Lives In A Car Accident In Palo Pinto County

Two students of Trinity University tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Palo Pinto County last Friday.

According to the story appearing on the My San Antonio website, officials did not initially release the name of the two victims of the fatal crash pending notification of their family members.

Officials have now identified the students as 9-year-old Tyler Colvin and 20-year-old Rebekah Wendt.  Colvin, a business major, and Wendt, who majored in history with a minor in architecture, were both expected to graduate from Trinity University in the Spring Semester of 2023.

A spokesperson for Trinity University said in a statement that the students were members of Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) and were campaigning for Jon Francis, a Republican candidate for the Texas House of Representatives. The two students had left a meeting for the group which ended at 6:00 p.m. They were returning to their hotel when the fatal crash occurred.

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety said in an emailed statement that Colvin was driving his 2014 Toyota Corolla eastbound on FM 4 when he failed to yield to a 2016 GMC pickup truck, which had the right of way.   Colvin’s vehicle struck the passenger side of the pickup truck.  Colvin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Wendt, who was the only passenger in the vehicle, was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Worth. She died as the result of injuries she suffered in the crash shortly after her arrival.

No details have been released about the driver of the GMC pickup truck or their current condition.

Nathan Darsch, chairman of the YCT, described the two students as “fun, energetic, and always looking to help those around them.”
