Two Women Were Killed In A Rear-end Collision Along The I-30 Highway

A crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 30 on Saturday night caused the deaths of two women and the injury of a five-year-old girl.

ABC affiliate, station WFAA in Dallas reported on its website that the fatal crash happened a little before 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th. A Ford F-150 pickup truck rear-ended a Chrysler PT Cruiser along the I-30 highway.

Investigators believe that the women in the PT Cruiser were attempting to assist a family member who had vehicle trouble.  A spokesperson with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department said that the woman driving the PT cruiser pulled onto the Interstate in the far right lane with the vehicle in reverse and was then struck by the pickup truck.

First responders were able to extricate the two women from their vehicle, and they were rushed to the hospital. A five-year-old girl was found injured and lying on the ground near the accident scene.  The child was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

Two hours after the crash, officials say that the two women in the vehicle, 28-year-old Monica Gallegos and 54-year-old Caroline Hernandez, were reported to have died approximately 2 hours after their arrival at the hospital.

The driver of the F-150 was not injured in the crash and stayed at the scene of the crash.  Law enforcement officials say that they do not expect charges to be filed in connection to the accident.
