    Woman Killed in Propane Explosion

A 62-year-old woman whose identity has not yet been released has died after an explosion at a residence in rural Van Zandt County on Sunday evening.

The tragic accident occurred around 5:00 p.m., in an area just south of Interstate 20 along Farm-to-Market Road 47, approximately 50 miles southeast of Dallas.

According to the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal, initial investigations reveal that the explosion was caused by a leaking propane line which caused the home to catch fire.

Officials indicate that there are four residents who live at the house; however, no one else was home at the time of the explosion.

Multiple fire departments were called to the scene to help to contain the fire.

This is the second incident in the last two months that has caused the destruction of a home and resulted in the death of the residents. Last month, 63-year-old Wanda Davis was the only resident at home when a faulty valve caused an explosion at her home in Grandview Texas.

Accidents can sometimes be attributed to defective gas lines or a defective propane tanks. These lines and tanks that deliver propane gas to heat the home and gas fired appliances can sometimes be penetrated by lawn care equipment, falling trees and debris or even careless digging by workers or other homeowners. A leak or a loose valve or other equipment along the gas line can cause gas to escape from the tank and create a hazard that can cause an explosion, fire or both. Once this leaked gas ignites, it can result in an explosion that can destroy property or seriously injure or kill whoever is in the area.
