Video Catches Drunk Driver In Crash

For those who choose to drink and drive and then get into an accident, you never know who might be watching or even capturing what happened on video.

NBCDFW reports that an alleged drunk driver found that out first hand on the night of  Wednesday, August 12th.  An off-duty Arlington police officer not only witnessed but filmed the driver running a red light but crashing into another vehicle.

Officials say that the incident happened at the intersection of West Pioneer Parkway and West Green Oaks Boulevard on Wednesday, August 12th, at approximately 9:50 p.m.  It was then that 28-year-old Matthew Gill, driving a Chevrolet Tahoe, blew through the traffic signal and slammed into Nissan Acura. The Acura, which had five people inside,  was attempting to make a left turn at the intersection.

The force of the impact caused the Tahoe to roll over several times before coming to a rest. Two of the passengers inside the Acura were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle during the collision.

A video released by the Arlington Police Department shows the off-duty officer immediately exiting his vehicle to check on the accident victims.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the crash and transported Gill and all five occupants of the Acura to an area hospital for treatment of injuries they suffered in the crash. No further information has been released about their identities or current condition.

Gill was later arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Arlington Police released the video on their Facebook page in the hopes it would serve as a reminder not to drink and drive.

The investigation of the crash is ongoing.
