Underground Racing And Donuts Lead To Crash And Explosion

Like most large cities in the U.S., Dallas has a robust underground racing scene. These races mean the illegal blocking of multiple streets as amateurs race in unsafe conditions. Amateurs being amateurs, people often end up getting hurt at these meets, not to mention property damage. When something does go wrong, those involved disperse to avoid capture by the authorities. But, all too often, innocent bystanders, or the city itself, ends up with the bill.

Carscoops reported that this week, one of these underground racing meets ended with a minor electrical explosion. How did it happen? We don’t have to guess. Someone captured it on video. At an intersection lined with cars, a white pickup attempted to pull off a donut. But the driver’s inexperience (or possible intoxication) showed through as the truck’s rear-end kicked out, slamming into an electrical pole.

Those that are gathered watch, paralyzed as the pole slowly falls to the pavement, narrowly missing several over occupied vehicles on the street. Then, a full second or two after that, a transformer blew, showering the entire intersection in white sparks.

At this point, the camera is torn away from the scene, as those gathered flee the scene to evade blame for the accident. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt in this event. But this crash could have easily ended with major injury or even death, either from the out-of-control truck or from the resulting explosion.
