Oak Cliff Accident Ends In Shootout

A car accident in Oak Cliff ended with a shootout that injured an officer last Saturday evening. The Dallas Morning News reports on the incident.

Officers were on South Westmoreland Road when they spotted a man wanted for two felony warrants. They attempted to arrest the man, but he fled in a pickup truck going the wrong way.

He crashed into a vehicle and fled on foot. The people in the car he crashed into were unhurt, but when the officers arrived the man got out of his truck and shot at the two officers.

One officer was shot in the hand. The second called for backup and treated the injury. The suspect ran away, but he was later found in a back yard with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The officer is expected to recover.

Criminals and officers can sometimes end up in situations that involve innocents on the roadways. It is fortunate that the car crash victims were not caught up in the gunfire, nor received injuries in the crash.

You should know that you can still seek compensation from someone who crashed into you even if they have been arrested on criminal charges.
