Hit And Run Driver Arrested After Striking Teen And Killing Him

A hit-and-run driver has been arrested after he struck a teen last week and fled the scene of the crash.

The Dallas News reports that police in Arlington that 22-year-old Keeshawn Sims turned himself into authorities for his role in the death of 17-year-old Knoah Harlan.

According to police, the fatal crash happened on Monday, July 27th, near Bowie High School in the 2100 block of Highbank Drive.

According to the report, the two men agreed to meet at the high school for a fight because Sims had gotten involved with another man’s girlfriend.

Eyewitnesses to the incident say that Sims made threats to kill a group of individuals who were in the vehicle with Harlan.  The group, along with Harlan, got out of their car while Sims went down the street. Witnesses say that Sims drove on to the sidewalk after making a U-turn and came directly at the group.  Sims missed the group of friends, so they got back into their vehicle.

Sims made a second U-turn and sped directly toward the vehicle, so the group got back out of the vehicle and attempted to flee.  Sims struck Harlan and another man, then fled the scene without attempting to render aid to the victim.

Emergency crews arrived at Bowie High School, where they pronounced Harlan dead at the scene. The other man whose identity was not released suffered a broken foot, and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Before turning himself in, police had issued a warrant for Sims’ arrest on the charge of vehicular homicide.  Sims is now facing this charge and other related charges, including aggravated assault.

The incident is still currently under investigation.
