Crash In Harris County Between Motorcycle And Pedestrian

Pedestrian accidents usually happen between larger vehicles and people in the roadway. But sometimes a smaller vehicle can tangle up with a pedestrian. That’s what seems to have happened in an accident in north Harris Country. KHOU reports.

A motorcycle struck a pedestrian that was crossing against the light. The incident happened at night on FM 1960 near I-45. The pedestrian was in the roadway at the time of the crash.

Both victims were hurt in the incident. The pedestrian had to be taken to hospital via medical helicopter. The motorcyclist went to another hospital by ambulance. No charges have yet been filed in the case.

A little over 6200 pedestrians and 5000 motorcyclists are killed each year in accidents. Auto accidents kill far more people, at 36,560 deaths in 2018 alone. But when pedestrians or motorcycles do get into accidents, the chances of death are much greater.

There is no protection between people and the impact of the vehicle and the road in motorcycle and pedestrian crashes. Motorcyclists can wear protective gear, but it’s nothing like the safety features in a standard vehicle. Riders have to receive training on how to bail from their bikes correctly to minimize damage. Pedestrians have even fewer protections.

No matter what vehicle you’re riding, keep an eye out for other bikers and pedestrians. There may be fewer of them, but the results are worse if they’re hit.
