Car Crash Traffic Jam Leads Police To Robbery Suspect

Sometimes police find evidence of crimes in the remains of a crash, but an unusual case in Bryan led officers to a bank robber thanks to a traffic jam. The Eagle reports.

According to the police report, a 53-year-old woman was arrested for attempted robbery while stopped at an accident scene. Bryan police became aware of the woman after a call from the First Convenience Bank around 10:30 in the morning on Wednesday. They reported the attempted robbery and threats to the workers. However, she left with no money.

The bank was able to provide a description of the vehicle and the woman. Later that day, police were working at an accident scene on Old Reliance Road and the North Earl Rudder Freeway frontage road. The suspect’s vehicle was recognized in the traffic jam. Upon approach, they found her in the vehicle.

The woman was charged with robbery and is currently in jail. The report says that the same bank had another robbery by a woman in October, but it is unclear if the current suspect is responsible for that as well.

While there were no injuries in this incident, it could have turned easily violent had the woman followed through on her threat or attempted to harm the officers at the scene. Fortunately for us, the traffic kept her hemmed in with no place to escape.
