Alleged DUI Driver Caught And Arrested In Fatal Accident
Ringing in the New Year is a time for celebration and going out with friends to have fun and remember the old year. Most people know that while it’s great to go out and have a few drinks it is also important to do so responsibly. They know to either have a designated driver or to call a cab or ride-sharing service.
According to a story which was reported on the CBS local website in Dallas, a suspected DUI driver caused a crash involving three vehicles that and claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman on New Year’s Eve.
Dallas Police say that the accident happened at around 11:00 p.m. near Westmoreland Road and Davis Street. The driver responsible for the crash Julio Menendez-Guerrero, 24, had been driving southbound on Westmoreland Road when he blew through a light at the intersection of Davis Street hitting Rodriguez-Perez.
Investigators say that Menendez-Guerrero’s vehicle struck that of Rodriguez-Perez, who had been traveling eastbound on Davis. The impact caused her vehicle to hit a third.
Emergency crews found the victim pinned inside of her car. The victim was transported to an area hospital by emergency crews from Dallas Fire-Rescue. Rodriguez-Perez later died at the hospital from the injuries that she received as a result of the crash.
No other injuries were reported in the accident.
Police say that Menendez-Guerrero attempted to flee the scene of the accident. He was arrested near the scene of the fatal crash and was charged with intoxication manslaughter and other related charges.
