GM Recalls Nearly A Million Vehicles For Safety Issues

A new recall by General Motors should give owners of new model vehicles pause. There is a flaw in several models that could prevent the seatbelts from working in a crash. NBC reports.

GM says that a bracket on some of their vehicles that holds the seat belt to the frame may not have been attached correctly. Dealers can fix the problem easily, but until it is fixed the belt may not hold in a crash.

The following models are among the recall:

Chevrolet Silverado 1500, years 2019-2021
GMC Sierra 1500, years 2019-2021
Chevrolet Suburban, 2021 model
Chevrolet Tahoe, 2021 model
GMC Yukon XL, 2021 model
Chevrolet Silverado 2500 & 3500, years 2020-2021
Chervolet Sierra 2500 & 3500, years 2020-2021

One common feature of these models is that they have bench seats. Fortunately, there is no need for a new part. Dealers can reassemble the frame connection to make it meet safety standards.

If you own one of these vehicle models, we urge you to go to a dealership to get it fixed as soon as possible. A belt failure during a crash will raise the odds of death and injury significantly. Also, if you carry passengers you put their lives at risk if you don’t get it fixed.
