Fatal Crash On Thanksgiving Eve Blamed On Alcohol
Driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol doesn’t just put the person behind the wheel at risk. They’re also putting the lives of their passengers and everyone who happens to be sharing the road with them in danger.
ABC affiliate station WFAA in Dallas reported that one woman has been killed and another seriously injured after a single-vehicle rollover crash on Thanksgiving Eve. Alcohol has been determined to have been a contributing factor in the fatal crash.
Investigators say that on Wednesday, November 25th, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a 27-year-old female driver was heading southbound on the North Central Expressway. When attempting to exit the expressway between Forest Lane and Coit Road via a service road, the woman crashed her SUV into a light pole.
The force of the impact spun the vehicle around until it collided with a concrete bridge support wall along the service road’s eastbound side.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers responded to the scene of the crash. A 33-year-old passenger in the SUV’s front seat was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Authorities have identified her as Stephania Ruiz.
The SUV driver was taken to Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of injuries she suffered in the crash. Her identity and current condition were not released at the time of the report.
Police say that the woman is expected to be arrested on the charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol and intoxication manslaughter.
