Beloved Firefighter From The Cresson Volunteer Fire Department Laid to Rest

As Texans, we pride ourselves on being there when called upon to help others. It doesn’t matter if it’s a loved one, a friend, a stranger, or people in another state or country who need help in a crisis.

The CBS Local station, KTXA-TV in Dallas Fort-Worth, reported on its website that the cremated remains of 63-year-old  North Texas volunteer firefighter Diana Jones of Cresson, Texas, were recovered and returned to her home state on Wednesday, September 9th.

Jones, an EMT and firefighter, had been a volunteer with the Cresson Fire Department for five years, and those who knew her said that she was passionate about her job. Jones, along with her son, Fire Captain Ian Kelly, would also contract with private firefighting companies during the fire season in the Western United States.

On Monday, August 31st, Jones and her son were both working on a fire crew in the Mendocino County National Forest near Sacramento, California.  Jones was killed during the wildfire while attempting to reposition her truck.

The casket containing Jones’ remains arrived at the Cresson Airport on Wednesday afternoon. From there, they were taken to a fire training facility in Cresson.

According to a statement issued by Cresson Fire Department officials, it is there that she will “lie in repose” until a public memorial service next weekend.

The public may pay their respects to Jones at the Cresson Volunteer Department’s training facility before the memorial service.  The service will be held at The Granbury Church, Jones’ church, at 10:00 a.m. Christ on Saturday, September 19th.

We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences toward the family of Diana Jones, her colleagues, and fellow firefighters with the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department.
