Two People Die in Two-Vehicle Head-on Collision in Cumberland

The Advocate reports that a two-vehicle crash in Cumberland, Wisconsin on Wednesday, June 223, 2021, has cost two people their lives.

According to a statement issued by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, a dump truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 48 just east of Cumberland when a passenger vehicle traveling westbound on the highway crossed the center lane. The car and the larger truck collided.

The two men inside the passenger car were reported to have died at the crash scene. A 19-year-old man from Turtle Lake had been driving the car, while a 21-year-old man from Amery was riding in the car as a passenger.

The 61-year-old driver of the dump truck from Chippewa Falls was also injured in the crash. He was transported by ambulance. He is expected to be ok since he is reported to have suffered only minor injuries in the accident.

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department said that the cause of the accident is not yet known. Driver intoxication, distraction, or falling asleep at the wheel have not yet been ruled out.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Wisconsin Medical Examiner’s Office.

At this time, our office and staff would like to extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families of the two young men who were so tragically lost.
