At Least One Dead In Ellis County Crash

One person has been pronounced dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 45 in Ellis County, near the county line, according to this short report from NBC DFW.

It appears four vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon. The crash happened at about 4:00 in the afternoon. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown how many were also injured in the crash.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 45 had to be closed for several hours as the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed. All traffic had to be diverted to the frontage road. This, of course, causes a significant slowdown, meaning many cars were caught in a slow-moving line for hours as officials worked the scene of the crash.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time.

The crash happened north of Whitfill Road in Alma, only four miles north of the Ellis County line.

Accidents like these can happen at any time, day or night, and they are common on major interstate highways like the I-45. Sometimes they happen because someone was distracted while driving, perhaps on a cell phone or browsing social media. Other times, alcohol is the culprit. Someone decides to drink and drive and they cause a major, sometimes fatal, accident. Whatever the cause, we can all work to make the roads safer by using wisdom in deciding when to get behind a wheel and what we do while driving.
