    Wrong-Way Crash Kills Both Drivers

Wrong way traffic sign and safety cones.

A driver traveling the wrong-way on Fort Worth Highway caused a head-on accident that left two dead on Thursday afternoon. According to Weatherford police Sgt. Wendy Field, the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Fort Worth Highway at Otto Road. The wrong way driver hit another vehicle. Each of the two vehicles contained a single occupant; both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims were 66-year-old Carolyn Flottman and 39-year-old Olivo Barrientos, both of Weatherford.

The Weatherford Police Department Advanced Accident Team is currently investigating the crash. At the time of this report, it is uncertain which of the two victims caused the crash.

While wrong way crashes are about five times more likely to happen between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m., this accident occurred in the early evening hours. Accidents of this type can happen at any time and for any number of reasons. Drivers can get confused and disoriented. Half of all wrong-way crashes resulted in either a death or an incapacitating injury.

The families of both of these victims will have to face the difficult emotional and financial realities after the accident. Whenever a driver is involved in the wrongful death of another, the family members of the victims very possibly will come together to file a civil case against the driver to attempt to obtain compensation. In the eyes of the Texas Courts, the family may be entitled to receive compensation for any medical bills, lost earnings and pain and suffering. The family may also be entitled to monetary damages resulting from the loss of companionship and comfort.

Often, the driver’s insurance agency will attempt to settle for far less in order to avoid paying the full amount that the victim or their family may be entitled to. Enlisting the help of an experienced accident attorney is the best option to help the family receive the evaluate compensation they are entitled to. Preparing a legal case in a wrong way accident can include gathering all police reports, testimony from witnesses and even reconstructing the accident by experts.
